Career Development: Learning the World of Film Production at NYU Stonestreet Studios!
For my last year of acting training, I transferred to the advanced studio for screen acting and production called Stonestreet Screen Acting Conservatory. This studio is very similar to Playwrights Horizons as we were trained in film acting, screenwriting, and all aspects of film production. I got to operate the camera, edit, direct, assistant direct, PA… You name it! This environment was invigorating to be a part of, as I was trying something new each day while acting on camera. We were even able to cast each other in short films written by us, and I got to star in a short film surrounding a high school theatre program that is currently being developed into a web series!
We also were able to meet Stonestreet alumnus Rachel Sennott and film director Emma Seligman at the annual Stonestreet Granite Awards in November. It is so inspiring to know how many successful actors and creatives have been through the same training as I have, and the prospect of working with these artists exhilarates me.
I will finish my NYU Drama training at Stonestreet next semester, and I am so grateful to be learning all sides of production to fuel my drive to be as multi-faceted as possible.
