Performance: “54 Sings The Bard: Broadway Goes Shakespeare” at 54 Below

This was such a fun performance! Joshua Turchin and I got to collaborate once more by inviting me to perform in a night celebrating Shakespearean Musical Theatre at 54 Below this October. This included songs from “Kiss Me, Kate,” “&Juliet,” “West Side Story,” and more! For my song choice, I knew I wanted to change things up and perform something a bit less contemporary from my other recent cabarets. So, “Kiss Me, Kate,” based on the incredible comedy The Taming of the Shrew, was the perfect musical to find a song from!

I had an idea to turn “I Hate Men,” a song where the heroine Katherine laments about her tribulations surrounding her past relationships, into a duet with one of my favorite singing partners, Isabella Scolaro! Joshua loved the idea, and I got to work establishing harmonies and brainstorming comedic elements we could bring into the piece. A sample of our duet is below and check out my Youtube Channel to watch the full performance!

The night ended up being a great success, and I am so thankful that Isabella and I got to share the stage together again. The ensemble of powerhouse singers got to sing “Roar” from &Juliet together to close out the show, and I know this cabaret will be one for the ages. The night was even more special as I wore a custom corset top that my sister gave me as an early birthday present! It felt so comforting to have my sister there with me in spirit as my family cheers me on from the Midwest. If Music be the food of love, Play On!
